When Mrs. Beeton said “A place for everything, and everything in its place,” (The book of household management) perhaps she was thinking specifically about the kitchen.
An organised kitchen can make all the difference between having an enjoyable cooking experience and a stressful one.
Thankfully, it doesn’t take much to capitalise on kitchen’s storage. Small changes can make a BIG difference.
Here are our top five Kitchen Storage hacks:
1. Organise your fridge/freezer:
Grab some old magazine holders or Tupperware containers with missing lids and use them as makeshift drawers and shelves inside your fridge and freezer. These can be labelled to ensure everything gets put back in the right place again!
Oh – and that space above your fridge/freezer – is it being used? Why not think about having a cupboard or shelving installed above the fridge/freezer cavity? You’ll be amazed by how much storage space this one improvement makes.
2. Upgrade your pantry:
Even a simple re-arrangement of shelves and addition of a few more shelves and hooks can make a huge difference. Think about the sections you use most often and plan accordingly.
Once this is done, grab your stash of old jars or buy some cheapies. Label them with sticky labels or even chalkboard paint and a white pen. Store the most used ingredients in these lovely-looking jars and put refills in a sealed box, ready for refilling.
3. Clear your benches:
A clear bench can be one of THE most inspiring things in a kitchen. Has the kitchen bench become a dumping zone in your home? Easy fix. Sort the clutter into piles of who it belongs to and distribute accordingly. Place a small bowl or dish on the bench (no bigger than 30x30cm) – this is the new ‘dumping zone’. Once it’s full, it gets sorted again. No more cluttered bench!
4. Organise your cleaning products:
Is your under-sink cupboard a mishmash of bits and pieces and a whole lot of wasted space? Install a rod halfway down the cupboard and hang your spray bottles on it. Done!
If you want to get more serious, consider installing roll-out drawers and shelves for storing cleaning products, supplies, and even your household bin and compost bucket.
5. Cupboard doors:
Maximise the blank space on the inside of your cupboard doors by adding spice racks (these are handy to store supplies, glad wrap and foil and of course, spices!), hooks, calendars, and corkboards.
Or perhaps consider installing shelving on the insides of the cupboard doors. You’ll be amazed by how much you can store here! At wonderful Kitchens, we only use BLUM when creating our stylish storage designs.
