Redesign, Renovate, or Restore?

When we talk about kitchen design there is a large spectrum of possibilities in how extreme we want to be in the amount of work we do. There are many people who are happy with their kitchen as they are, but want to make a few minor changes. Others will be looking to do a complete overall, perhaps replacing everything in the kitchen. Style changes can range from very minor, to very significant, and it’s up to you to decide how much work you want to put into improving your kitchen.

Redesigning, or remodeling, your kitchen, involves making minor décor changes. Styles and colors are changed, decorations brought in, and perhaps a minor replacement is made here or there. A kitchen redesign is great for those looking to improve the look and feel of their kitchen, without having to invest a massive amount of time, money, and energy. It can be as simple as painting the walls and cabinets, or adding new features such as door knobs and appliances. A full kitchen remodel should be done in such a way that everything fits together nicely, creating a feeling of balance and cohesiveness.

There are many reasons why homeowners decide to renovate their kitchen. Renovation is a much more in-depth and committed process than either redesigning or restoring, and involves the replacement of some or all of the kitchen’s features. It can mean upgrading appliances, changing surface materials such as benchtops and splashbacks, as well as flooring and cabinetry. Depending on how much you are looking to replace, renovations can be expensive and time consuming, but will also give you the chance to completely remake your kitchen. Often people choose to renovate over time, making small changes here and there, while keeping an overall goal in mind. After a while, their kitchen will look brand new! However you choose to renovate, following some simple rules will help bring your kitchen ideas to life.

If you like your kitchen the way it is, but feel it could use some minor updating and repairs, consider a kitchen restoration. There is a lot you can do to make an older kitchen feel as if it has barely been used, such as scrubbing and repainting cabinets, buffing floors, and perhaps replacing a few small features, such as appliances and lighting.  It’s amazing how much restoration can be done on a small budget, and the difference it makes on the way our kitchen feels.

The sky’s the limit when it comes to how much work you want to put into your kitchen, but that we don’t necessarily need a massive budget to make significant improvements. Whether you are looking to brighten up your kitchen with a new paint job, or completely overhaul it, it’s always a good idea to consider how much effort you want to put into the job. No matter what, the important thing is that your kitchen is a place you enjoy for both functionality and feel. Talk to the experts today at Wonderful Kitchens.
